A research project on Mosquito repellency tests using chemical, botanical and mechanical techniques

Author(s): Alimul Islam and Bidhan Chandra Das*

Abstract
The experiments were conducted to find out the repellent activities to control mosquitoes using chemical (camphor, CO2 and ethanol), botanical (garlic and mint leaf) and mechanical (heat, sound frequency) techniques. In the case of camphor, the mosquitoes were not repelled. Using CO2 and ethanol were not effective to repel mosquitoes. Garlic and mint leaves were also not effective to repel mosquitoes. The heat was not as good repellent of mosquitoes. Sound frequency did not show any repellent activity of mosquitoes. Actually, all of the procedures using chemical (camphor, CO2 and ethanol), botanical (garlic and mint leaf) and mechanical (heat, sound frequency) techniques were not effective to control mosquitoes.
